Alongside the historic questions one of the main exploratory focuses of VIAS – Vienna Institute for Archaeological Science at the Vienna University, is enhancing and testing new excavation techniques and instruments and the involvement of natural sciences with archaeological research. The archaeologists work together with geophysicists, geodesists, archaeobotanists, archaeozoologists, metallurgists, experimental archaeologists, physicists, chemists, geologists and numismatisists. This cooperation enables the researchers to solve economical and colonisational questions and to improve archaeological methods.
